Travel a few miles away from the city of Philadelphia
and find the Pennsylvania countryside opening up in front
of you. As it does, a number of great wineries will
also begin to appear. Pennsylvania wine tours can
be arranged through official wine tasting tours in eastern
Pennsylvania or by taking wine tours in Pennsylvania on
your own. A few wineries even feature on-site bed
and breakfasts and other surprising treats. Although
the colder weather of Pennsylvania
doesn’t lend itself to growing all of the grapes
a traveler might find in California,
there are still some excellent wines grown in the state
and Pennsylvania wine tours are the perfect way to learn
more about them. Below you will find information
about some of the most popular wine tours in Pennsylvania
in the various wine regions.
Adams County Winery
The city of Orrtanna is where travelers will find this
gem of a winery, which is actually only 10 miles west
of Gettysburg. The
Adams County Winery tasting room is open daily, year round,
from 10am until 6pm. The expansive grassy area outside
the winery is full of picnic tables and makes an ideal
place to stop for lunch. During the summer the winery
also puts on concerts (usually local bands), so be sure
to check in if you want to catch some live local music.
The winery also conducts daily Pennsylvania wine tours,
totally free of charge. If you have time, be sure
to stop at the Gettysburg
National Museum in Gettysburg, where folks can see
the site of the Battle of Gettysburg and other historical
monuments.
Peace Valley Winery
The Peace Valley Winery in the town of Chalfront, Pennsylvania is the perfect place to go for wine lovers who want to experience some special and unique wines. Among wine tours in Pennsylvania, the Peace Valley Winery tour will reveal wines made from the highest variety of grapes around; more than 300. The owner of the Peace Valley Winery is a former scientist who continues to experiment with growing new kinds of grapes and trying out bold combinations. The tasting room and gift shop are open from noon until 6pm Wednesday through Sunday, year round, and opens early on Saturday (10am).
Bird Song Winery
Located in the town of Cherry Mills, Pennsylvania, Bird Song Winery is a small family-owned winery which focuses on low-impact farming. A wine tasting room and free tours of the winery are available daily, throughout the year.
Annual Great Tastes of Pennsylvania Wine and Food Festival
Wine tasting tours in Eastern Pennsylvania are also a part of wine tours in the state and often revolve around some of the great wine festivals in the state. One of the most popular wine tasting tours in Eastern Pennsylvania is the Annual Great Tastes of Pennsylvania Wine and Food Festival, happening in Split Rock, Pennsylvania near Lake Harmony and less than an hour by car from Philadelphia. This is an outdoor festival that lasts for two days each June. The Split Rock Resort features weekend resort packages which include a stay at the resort and covers entrance to the festival.
