Ski Roundtop is a Pennsylvania ski resort that can be found near the capital city of Harrisburg. While not a huge resort, the Roundtop Ski Resort offers sixteen runs that can satisfy at least a few hours. If you show up during the day and aren't ready to quit once the sun starts to set, the resort offers night skiing, and you can also fill your time with some snow tubing. Two terrain parks help to keep things interesting, as do the wonderful panoramic views from various vantage points on the slopes.
The Roundtop Ski Resort has a bottom elevation of 800 feet and a top elevation of 1,400 feet. The result is a vertical drop of 600 feet, and if you stick to the longest run, you'll cover 4,100 feet. Approximately 35 inches of snow fall on the resort's 104 total skiable acres on an average annual basis, and as is true at the sister resorts of Whitetail and Liberty Mountain, manmade snow can be produced as needed. Ten lifts, two of which are quad chair lifts, move skiers and snowboarders around the mountain, and there's even a surface lift at the snow tubing area. Also worth noting when it comes to the overall conditions at Ski Roundtop is the fact that it boasts a fantastic half pipe. This pipe features thirteen-foot walls and has its own J-Bar lift.
The Roundtop Ski Resort might not offer as many runs as some of the larger ski resorts in the country, such as Vail and Heavenly, but that doesn't mean that it can't satisfy all levels. Ten percent of the trails are double black diamond rated, and advanced skiers and snowboarders can also get their fix on a few black diamond runs. The rest of the runs are intermediate and beginner runs, and should you need some help with your skills, you can book some lessons at the Discovery Area. Ski Roundtop is a good place to learn how to ski or snowboard, and this helps to make it a great family resort. Also adding to its allure for families, and anyone else for that matter, are the affordable rates. This resort prides itself on offering a good value, and there are plenty of affordable lodging options in the area.
There aren't any Ski Roundtop hotels at the base of the mountain. That being said, the resort has paired up with area lodging establishments to offer some tempting ski-and-stay packages. These area lodging establishments include bed and breakfasts such as the Blair Mountain B&B, motels such as the Super 8 in nearby Etters, and amenity-filled hotels that include the Courtyard by Marriott Harrisburg West/Mechanicsburg and the Hampton Inn Harrisburg West. There are Ski Roundtop hotels to fit a range of budgets and tastes, so you shouldn't have trouble finding your ideal area base.
Ski Roundtop is just a twenty-minute drive from Harrisburg, and it's not much farther to Hershey. Between these two nearby destinations, there are lots of lodging establishments that you can add to your list of potential Ski Rountop hotels. Among the most enticing lodging establishments in the Harrisburg-Hershey area is the Hotel Hershey and Spa. This AAA Four Diamond resort is the official resort of Hershey Park and can make for a fine place to stay regardless of when you choose to visit the area. Ski Rountop, it is worth mentioning, is also an excellent summer destination, thanks in part to its zip lines, its rope courses, its paintball area, and its youth and adult camps.
