Block Island Hotels

The Block Island hotels present visitors with an array of lodging options to choose from, and if you can't find your ideal accommodations among the hotels here, there are plenty of vacation rentals to consider. The Block Island rentals, much like the hotels, come in different shapes and sizes, so finding one to fit your needs should be a breeze. Speaking of breezes, many Block Island lodging establishments sit close to the sea, affording their guests numerous opportunities to relax and take in the fresh, ocean air. The Block Island hotels and vacation rentals raise their rates considerably in the peak summer season, and they also tend to fill up quickly during the warmer months. Booking your summertime stay in advance is key, especially if you plan to visit during summer events like the 4th of July celebrations. You can read about some of the best Block Island lodging establishments in the following paragraphs, which should help you narrow down your list of choices when planning your visit.

If you want to stay at one of the more historic Block Island hotels, you will do well to book your stay at the National Hotel. This Victorian gem, which dates back to 1888, is the island's flagship hotel, and you'll find it in the island's historic town area. You can walk to the National Hotel after arriving by ferry from either Point Judith or Newport, among other embarkation points, and there are a bunch of shops and restaurants in the immediate area. All 45 rooms at the National Hotel feature a classic decor, and while most are relatively small due to the hotel's age and design, larger superior and suite accommodations are available. As is the case at most of the hotels in Block Island, the rooms at the National Hotel are not overly luxurious or overflowing with amenities. They are clean and comfortable, however, and do feature cable TV, a telephone, and a private bathroom. Some of the rooms offer ocean views, and if yours doesn't, you can always enjoy them on the hotel's large porch. Grabbing a meal at the National Hotel's restaurant is an excellent idea, especially if you like steaks and seafood, and the two onsite bars are both great places to grab a drink. As a side note, if you are interested in the National Hotel, the Spring House Hotel offers a comparable lodging experience, so you might consider it as well.

The majority of the hotels in Block Island are found in and around the touristy main village, which is understandably close to the ferry harbor and the island's small airport. Such is the case with Ballard's Inn, which is among the more lively hotels in Block Island. Though Ballard's Inn is often labeled a full service resort, it is akin to a boutique hotel in many ways. It does boast its own quarter-mile beach, one of the island's most popular bars, and an excellent restaurant, which certainly lends to the resort feel. Behind the hotel is a marina if you need a place to park your boat, and cocktail service is available on the beach when it comes time to kick back and relax. The rooms at Ballard's Inn, which are among the best on the island, are all tasteful in decor and relatively good on amenities. The in-room amenities include air conditioning, a mini-fridge, a clock radio, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer, and complimentary bath products. You will also enjoy Direct TV programming and free wireless internet access in your guest room at Ballard's Inn. You can book a deluxe unit here if you want an ocean view balcony, which is recommended.

When looking for dependable and well-priced Block Island lodging, the Island Manor Resort is worth considering. You can walk to the village center and the beach from the Island Manor Resort, and while the rooms here are rather dated, they are well-priced and convenient. Each of the guest units is clean and comfortable and features a fully-equipped kitchen, which helps to make them ideal for families. The one-bedroom suites feature two full bathrooms, while the smaller studios offer one full bath, and each unit is equipped with a television and a VCR. Movies are available in the hotel's entertainment center, as are board games and books. Should you go fishing during your visit and snag a few dandies, you can prepare your catch of the day on one of the Island Manor's guest BBQ grills, and there are picnic tables available if you fancy outdoor dining. The Island Manor Resort offers a great location, and its owners are happy to recommend things like hiking trails, restaurants, and beaches.

While you can always stay at one of the larger hotels in Block Island, one of the smaller inns might better fit your wants and needs. A number of inns figure among the Block Island lodging choices, and one of the better ones is the Rose Farm Inn. This charming Victorian inn offers a relaxed natural setting that is just far enough from the main village, while not being too far away. You can walk to the village when you're not relaxing and enjoying the country views that the Rose Farm Inn affords, and you can also walk to the beach as you please. The guest rooms at the Rose Farm Inn are housed in two different buildings, and there is also a guest house here that is akin to many of the Block Island rentals. The Meadow View House, as the rental house at the Rose Farm Inn is called, features three bedrooms, a spacious living area, a fully-equipped kitchen, Direct TV, laundry facilities, and more, so it's a verifiable home away from home. As for the smaller guest rooms, all but two feature a private bathroom, and each is well-outfitted with ample furnishings. Some of the rooms feature Jacuzzi tubs and decks, and they are most ideal for romantic getaways. The Rose Farm Inn offers coupons for bicycle rentals at a nearby shop if you want to tour the island on two wheels, which is a terrific way to go. You can always pedal out to one of the island's lighthouses or secluded coves, among other destinations.
