Anderson South Carolina

Anderson South Carolina

The city of Anderson South Carolina developed as a smaller town in South Carolina toward the end of the 18th century. The area had long been inhabited by Cherokee Indian tribes, but they were mostly moved as the town developed. Anderson SC joined the city of Greenville as a major producer of textiles after the Civil War and its economy has continued to rely heavily on textiles. Anderson South Carolina remains a great place for touring in the south.

Many folks planning Anderson travel come to town to enjoy the many events in the city of Anderson South Carolina. For a somewhat smaller town, Anderson SC actually has quite a few annual events that draw tourists from all over year after year. Once such event is the Anderson South Carolina Annual Chili Cook-Off. Local Anderson SC restaurants bring out their best recipes and ingredients and compete for the title of “Anderson’s Best Chili”. The event is held in the main park downtown during the summer each year.

The Anderson County Fair is another popular attraction in Anderson South Carolina. The fair happens every October in Anderson and features livestock competitions, arts and crafts and carnival rides for the kids. Live musical performances, including folk and bluegrass, are also part of this Anderson SC event. The fair tends to draw visitors from around the area, so if you plan to book an Anderson hotel during October be sure to book ahead, as hotels do fill up during the fair.

Shopping is another reason many tourists plan Anderson travel. In particular, the city of Anderson South Carolina is noted for the great antique shopping available throughout downtown. Head to East Main street in the center of town to enjoy an entire row of classic antique shops. Furniture and memorabilia of all kinds are found in the many antique shops of downtown Anderson.

For Anderson travelers looking for something to do at night, there are some fun aspects to Anderson nightlife, as well. Stick to downtown Anderson for the most exciting bars and busiest restaurants. Like many of South Carolina’s smaller towns, Anderson is a place for family owned pubs with live music. Travelers will not often find dance clubs in Anderson. Buffalo’s Café in the heart of downtown is one of the most popular bar-and-grills in Anderson.

There are also some fun side trips travelers can take from Anderson. The city of Greenville is located just to the north of Anderson, as is the town of Spartanburg. In Greenville, a trip to the Greenville Zoo or a hike from Greenville into the Blue Ridge Mountains can be a great way to spend a day or an entire weekend. From Greenville, camping, hiking and whitewater rafting are also popular pursuits.
