Greenville Zoo

The Greenville Zoo is located in Greenville, South Carolina in Cleveland Park. The zoo in Greenville SC is a particular favorite among locals not only for the animals and attractions within the zoo itself, but also for the playground and paths found in the surrounding Cleveland Park. The city of Greenville is about an hour and a half north of Columbia (by car) and makes an excellent day trip destination from the capital or a great place to spend the afternoon if you are already in Greenville.

Greenville Zoo admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 3 to 15. Children 2 and under are granted free Greenville Zoo admission. Hours for the Greenville Zoo are daily from 10am until 4:30pm, although the zoo in Greenville SC is closed for some major holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Be sure to call ahead for current closures if you plan to visit the zoo on or near a holiday.

Greenville Zoo admission grants visitors access to all exhibits at the zoo. The Greenville Zoo is small enough that families can walk the entirety of the zoo without the aid of other transportation. As such, there is not a rail or other transportation option for traveling through the zoo. An entire walking tour of the zoo in Greenville SC will take under an hour and a half, which is manageable for most guests on foot. A couple of small snack stands are found on the grounds of the Greenville Zoo, but many visitors pack their own picnic lunch. Cleveland Park, which surrounds the zoo in Greenville SC, has a host of picnic tables which serve as excellent lunching spots. The park also features volleyball courts, tennis courts and walking and biking paths.

Within the Greenville Zoo itself are a number of animal exhibits. A Farm Exhibit houses a number of animals such as cows, goats, pigs and sheep. This is a favorite among younger children in particular. A reptile house is also among the more popular exhibits and features a number of lizards, iguanas and other interesting snakes and reptilian creatures. The African Exhibit continues to draw the highest number of Greenville Zoo guests and features two full grown African elephants, a number of monkeys and other primates and a wide collection of typical African animals. Red pandas and orangutans are also among the favorite zoo creatures.

The Greenville Zoo is located on 14 acres of land just off of Highway 385 on Cleveland Park Drive. For visitors staying in town at one of the many Greenville hotels, the zoo is a great way to spend an afternoon and is located not far from downtown Greenville. Tickets can only be purchased in person at the zoo box office during regular zoo business hours. The Greenville Zoo accepts Visa and Master Card as payment, as well as cash, but does not take personal checks. The zoo in Greenville SC is noted for the impeccably maintained park grounds and beautiful trees and fauna that accompany the animal exhibits. For visitors who just can’t get enough of animals, the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia is less than a two-hour drive from Greenville.
