The island of Hilton Head
is one of South Carolina’s most popular vacation
destinations. Located 20 miles north of Savannah
and about 90 miles south of Charleston,
Hilton Head is a golfing, fishing
and beachcombing paradise. Hilton
Head resorts tend to be focused on golfing, but there
are also a number of Hilton Head Island resorts with other
themes, as well. Resorts in Hilton Head will experience
their busiest and most expensive season between May and
September, when millions of tourists pack into town to
enjoy the beaches and the excellent weather. Unlike some
of the more traditional towns of South Carolina such as
Charleston, Aiken and Spartanburg,
in Hilton Head the resorts rule.
One of the most popular Hilton Head resorts for families
is the Disney Hilton Head Resort, which of course has
a Disney theme throughout. From a Disney-themed breakfast
with characters to sheets and in-room stuffed animals,
this Hilton Head Island Resort is a favorite for small
children in particular. All of the rooms in at the Disney
Hilton Head Resort have their own small kitchens, which
can be ideal for parents who want to keep meal cost low
or just for handing snacks to the kids before heading
to the beach. Babysitting services and three outdoor pools
also add to the fun of the Hilton Head Resort for parents.
For more adult fun from a Hilton Head Island Resort,
travelers can head for the Hilton head Marriott Beach
and Golf Resort. As the name suggests, the Marriott features
3 separate 18-hole golf courses and is located right on
the water. This is one of the largest resorts in Hilton
Head, with over 500 rooms and occupying a sizable chunk
of the sandy beach. For guests who love playing beach
volleyball and hanging out on the beach, the hotel organizes
a series of games and activities with adults in mind.
There is also a great program for children, which includes
babysitting services. A total of 25 tennis courts and
3 pools (1 indoor), this is a popular choice among golfing
vacationers. The hotel does offer golf vacation packages.
The Palmetto Dunes Resort is yet another of Hilton Head’s premier golfing resorts, features 3 18-hole golf courses of its own which happen to be three of the nicest on the island. This resort focuses mainly on servicing folks with condos for longer stays, and in fact enforces a 2-night minimum stay on all bookings. Prices are between $700 and $3,500 per week for condos and villas, which are usually rented out by families or groups traveling together. The Palmetto Dunes Resort does offer golf packages, which must be reserved over the phone and will require a %50 deposit to hold the reservation. The resort is set on the grounds of the much larger Palmetto Dunes Plantation, which is worth checking out if you are staying here. More than 20 restaurants and 28 pools grace the grounds of this hotel. Book early if you would like to stay during the summer, and be aware that summer prices are highest.
