Mount Pleasant South Carolina

Mount Pleasant South Carolina prides itself on its name. A community of around 65,000 people, it is certainly a pleasant place to be, especially since there are plenty of attractions for the resident and visitor alike to enjoy. Among these attractions is the Historic Old Village, where colonial and antebellum homes mix with churches that have also been around for decades on end. A charming inn calls this historic district home, and it is known as the Old Village House Restaurant & Historic Inn.

Mount Pleasant SC is found due east of Charleston and helps to form the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Thanks to this location, those who are staying at a local hotel can access the Charleston attractions with ease. That's not to say that plenty of time shouldn't be reserved for Mount Pleasant itself. Other top attractions that call the city home are the Charles Pinckney Historic Site and the Boone Hall Plantation. The Charles Pinckney Historic Site is a remnant of Snee Farm, which served as the country estate of statesman Pinckney. Visitors can learn about its former owner and about African-American life during the general Revolutionary War era. 1240 Long Point Road is where the Charles Pinckney Historic Site can be found.

As for the Boone Hall Plantation, parts of it date back to the 1700s, and visitors can check out slave cabins, a smokehouse, and a cotton gin house. They can also walk down an oak-lined avenue that is among the most beautiful approaches to a plantation that you will find anywhere in the South. Also worth highlighting when it comes to this major Charleston area tourist attraction is the fact that it plays host to all kinds of events, including concerts that can feature big name artists. 1235 Long Point Road is the location for the Boone Hall Plantation, which means that it isn't very far from the Charles Pinckney Historic Site.

One of the main reasons why so many tourists are drawn to the Charleston-Mount Pleasant area is the fresh seafood. Numerous shrimp boats operate out of the area, so you can be sure that shrimp figures prominently on the local restaurant menus. Some of the best restaurants in Mount Pleasant sit along the Shem Creek waterway and offer views of Charleston Harbor.

Adding to the allure of Mount Pleasant South Carolina as a travel destination are the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, which features two historic vessels that can be toured, and the Old Mount Pleasant Shopping District. Shops of all kinds are found within this district, so you never know what you might come away with. Of course, nearby Fort Sumter also begs a visit, particularly for history buffs. The shots that initiated the Civil War were fired upon the site. Ferries transport visitors to Fort Sumter and depart from Patriots Point. The ride out takes about 30 minutes.
