Union Station Hotel

The Union Station Hotel is an elegant option for historic accommodations in downtown Nashville. The rooms boast stunning Romanesque Romanesque architecture and superb design, and in addition to this historic Nashville hotel being something of an attraction in its own right, it’s also conveniently located downtown and offers easy access to the best restaurants, nightclubs and attractions in Nashville, such as shows at the Ryman Auditorium.

The Union Station, also referred to as the Union Station Wyndham Historic Hotel, is a castle-like building that was once a railroad station. In the early 1900s, train stations such as this one were huge structures and often ornate ones. Union Station boasted exquisitely designed Victorian decorations including ornate wood carvings and adorned with Italian marble. There are still beautiful bas-relief panels featuring a steam locomotive, and the barrel-vaulted lobby has 100-year-old prism stained glass, marbled floors, and oak-wood doors.

The station was opened in October 1900 and it used to house up to ten trains at once. The hotel lobby even had two alligator ponds on the track level at one time. Celebrities such as Mae West and Al Capone passed through, the latter en route to prison on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco. Union Station was declared a National Historic landmark in 1977 and was opened as a luxury hotel in December 1986. In 2005, it was purchased by a anew owner who invested more than $10 million in renovating the Union Station Hotel, which reopened in 2007 once the redesign was complete.
