Best Time to Visit San Antonio

San Antonio weather is often warm and sunny, but rarely scorching. This energetic city, nestled in the Texas Hill Country, averages more than 300 days of sun every year. For many travelers, the best time to travel here is in the spring and fall when the days are quite pleasant—warm, but not hot, and often bright and free of rain.

January and February: Typically, January is the coolest month of the year with a gradual warm up toward the end of February. During this time, it's extremely unusual to see temperatures anywhere near the freezing point. The San Antonio weather forecast usually calls for highs in the low 60s and very little rain during the first few weeks of the year. The nights are cool, dipping about 20 degrees from the daytime high, to an average temperature around 40. An evening stroll along the Riverwalk will require a jacket.

March and April: San Antonio weather is the most pleasant during this stretch of time. In the early spring, it's not uncommon to see temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s. The city's flowers begin to bloom in March, and the surrounding Hill Country is especially famous for its abundance of wildflowers and bird-watching opportunities. Golfers often consider this the best time San Antonio because of the sunny, dry days and relatively still winds. Also, the biggest event of the year, Fiesta, unfolds over eleven pleasant days in April.

May through September: The temperatures continue to rise in late spring and early summer, with May's average temperature jumping to 85 degrees for a high and 65 degrees for a low. In June, the average tops out at 91 degrees. These two months are the rainiest, too, but travelers can expect to find plenty of sunny days during this time. The highest temperatures in the San Antonio weather forecast typically happen in July, and August is nearly as warm. The waterparks at Six Flags Fiesta and Sea World are especially popular during the summer.

October through December: In the fall, San Antonio weather forecast is similar to the spring. Visitors can expect to find highs in the lower 80s in early October, dipping into the low 70s in November and the mid 60s in December. Many shoppers find December the best time to visit San Antonio; several one-of-a-kind shops are found along the Riverwalk, which is decked in holiday lights. On weekend nights during the holidays, many of the downtown attractions, including the Alamo, are lit for Fiesta de las Luminarias.
