Hotels in Burlington Vermont

With so many things to do and a pleasant location ideal for exploring the northern part of the state, Burlington is the perfect base for any Vermont vacation. There are many good Burlington Vermont hotels to chose from.

Most hotels in Burlington Vermont are clustered around Route 2 and Route 7 about 5 miles from downtown. Although they may lack some New England charm, most of these Burlington hotels are modern, clean, and comfortable. Howard Johnson and Smart Suites on Route 7 (Shelburne Road) are reliable choices. On Route 2 (Williston Road), the Best Western Windjammer Inn and the simple Swiss Host Motel and Village are good bets.

Any of these Burlington Vermont hotels are good bases for Burlington day trips, but there is only one good option if you want to stay at the center of downtown: the Radisson Hotel, Burlington. The best situated of all Burlington hotels, the nine-story Radisson is located between the waterfront and the Church Street Marketplace, where you can find the best shopping in Vermont. Odd-numbered rooms in the Radisson offer view over Lake Champlain.

Visitors to Burlington’s University of Vermont will want to lay their heads in the Willard Street Inn, a brick mansion a few minutes walk from the university. The owners of the inn also own the stately Lang House, one of the nicest hotels in Burlington Vermont and situated on the hillside between downtown and the university (360 Main Street).

Some of the best Burlington Vermont hotels are located a few miles outside the city. The 1886 Basin Harbor Club has an 18-hole golf course, a marina with boat rentals, art workshops, and two fine restaurants. The Inn at Shelburne Farms is an elegant but expensive Tudor-style inn on the banks of Lake Champlain. In the Vermont spirit, part of the inn’s profits fund educational programs at the extensive farms.

Another of the most stylish hotels in Burlington Vermont is the Inn at Essex. The staff at the hotel’s restaurants are from the New England culinary institute, so this is a great place to taste updated New England food from the chefs of the future.

Whether you come to Vermont to golf, ski, fish, or admire the fall foliage, the Burlington hotels provide the ideal base to explore the state. The nightlife, shops, and restaurants in Burlington mean you’ll never be bored at these and other Burlington Vermont hotels.
