The Inn at Montpelier is an easy stroll from downtown. The wide wraparound Colonial Revival porch is ideal for people watching or relaxing with a good book. The Capital Plaza Hotel is one of the Montpelier hotels favored by businessmen coming into town to work with the state government, but its central location makes it a good place for anyone on a Vermont vacation. This is not the most fancy of Montpelier hotels, but is an affordable and reliable choice.
Most lodging chains have hotels in Montpelier. Even during fall and when the legislature is in session, travelers are likely to find a room in one of the Montpelier hotels or motels along Route 62.
Montpelier’s twin city, Barre, also has some good hotels. The Hollow Inn and Motel on Route 14 is close to the Barre quarries. The Maplecroft bed and breakfast has just three rooms, but you are likely to have some interesting fellow guests: discounts are offered to librarians, quilters, and magicians!
Montpelier is a good base from which to explore northern
