Hampton

Hampton

Hampton Virginia is located on the Virginia Peninsula in the Hampton Roads region of southeastern Virginia. It’s bordered on the north and east by the Chesapeake Bay and on the south by the Hampton Roads Harbor. A Hampton vacation is the perfect cure for summertime boredom as Hampton travel offers visitors a range of activities from visiting the Virginia Air & Space Center to a day spent at the Jacques Cousteau Society headquarters, to an entire summer spent fishing the Chesapeake Bay.

When planning your next trip to Hampton Virginia, plan at least an afternoon to enjoy the Casemate Museum at Fort Monroe that chronicles the imprisonment of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and the Fort's role during the Civil War. The entire family will be fascinated to learn the details of this particular piece of Confederate History during your Hampton vacation. The Casemate Museum is open from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM, 7 days per week. Admission is free, so you can save your cash for your next Hampton travel stop: The Virginia Air & Space Center.

The Virginia Air & Space Center at Langley is a popular spot for those interested in aeronautics and astronautics. The Virginia Air & Space Center is also home to the Langley Air Force Base, the Apollo 12 Command Module, and a DC-9 passenger jet. At this Hampton travel stop you can also experience a 3-D IMAX theater presentation about walking on the moon. Admission ranges from about $7 -$17, with discounts offered to museum members, seniors and military.

During your Hampton vacation don’t forget to take in one of the most popular Hampton Virginia events during the month of June, the Hampton Jazz Festival at the Coliseum Hampton Virginia. Each year the Jazz Festival organizers and evaluates all the available jazz, R&B and blues artists that are on tour during the time of the festival and selects and assembles the best possible entertainment package for Coliseum Hampton Virginia goers. The Coliseum Hampton Virginia is one of the three largest convention facilities in Virginia and hosts an impressive year-round entertainment roster. The Hampton Coliseum was recognized with a "Prime Site" award in 1994 by Agent and Manager Facilities magazine, ranking it with entertainment venues such as Madison Square Garden.

Another great Hampton vacation or Hampton travel idea is to take part in a harbor tour aboard the 65-foot "Miss Hampton.” You’ll be entranced by the spectacular views and relaxed by the gentle rocking of the much loved “Miss Hampton.” Three-hour daily cruises operate April thru Oct at 10:00 am with additional daily tours at 2:00 pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day. The narrated tours will take you past the Norfolk Naval Base, Civil War Island Fortress (Ft. Wool), Chesapeake Bay, Old Point Comfort, Battle of the Monitor/Merrimac, and the site of Blackbeard's Point (where his severed head was displayed). Be prepared for an exciting day in Hampton Virginia!
