Richmond

Richmond

Richmond Virginia, the former Capital of the Confederacy and the current Capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is a city rife with history and charm. Richmond Virginia tourism thrives because of the many historical sites, museums, and parks. Take a Richmond vacation in Virginia and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at all this city has to offer.

For starters, Richmond Virginia is the home of the Virginia Historical Society, a wonderful organization dedicated to the preservation, the understanding, and the sharing of Virginia history. The Virginia Historical Society offers the most comprehensive collection of Virginia history in the world and features the largest display of Virginia artifacts on permanent display. The Historical society centerpiece is their "Story of Virginia, an American Experience," a state's exhibition covering all of Virginia history from prehistoric times to the present.

Richmond Virginia tourism also offers visitors the chance to visit The Museum and White House of the Confederacy, a museum housing one of the largest collections of Confederate artifacts and documents in the world. The museum is a private non-profit educational & preservation organization, with exhibits featuring the personal effects of Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and other Confederate figures of the Civil War.

During your Richmond vacation you might be interested in finding a local Richmond Virginia restaurant where you can soak up the flavor of the South. Try the world famous Millie's Diner, serving Richmond Virginia since 1989. Dinner menus change every three weeks and the wine & beer lists feature a varied selection from around the globe. Richmond Virginia tourism certainly benefits from this Richmond Virginia restaurant’s Sunday Night Concert Series that brings in musical acts with a family style meal provided with each paid admission. Millie’s Diner is open Tuesday thru Sunday for lunch & dinner. The restaurant is closed Mondays.

Besides a Richmond Virginia restaurant, you may also need a place to lay your head down after a stimulating day of sightseeing. Try The Berkeley Hotel located in downtown Richmond, a boutique hotel, rated Four-Diamond by AAA. This hotel features 55 elegantly appointed guest rooms and amenities include wireless internet, European-Style Turndown, complimentary morning newspaper, in-room voice mail, fitness facilities and same-day laundry and dry cleaning services. During your stay you can enjoy a walk on the new 1.25 mile Canal Walk located just 2 blocks away from The Berkeley.

A Richmond vacation also needs a little nightlife, so try out the Richmond Virginia Canal Club, located in the historic Shockoe Bottom area of Richmond. The Canal Club is a premier live music venue, and offers visitors a chance to see well-known local and national performers in action. This club offers a full service restaurant and lounge as well as a live music venue upstairs.

With all there is to do in Richmond Virginia, your Richmond vacation will no doubt keep you busy. Book your reservations early, bring good walking shoes to visit all the historical sites and walk the new canal downtown. You’re guaranteed you’ll be happy you came.
