Williamsburg, Virginia offers a vacation experience quite unlike any other.  Enjoy history re-enacted at Colonial Williamsburg one day, then head to Busch Gardens Williamsburg the next.  Golf aficionados will appreciate a few rounds of Virginia golf at quality Williamsburg area courses, and wine-lovers can enjoy a tour at the Williamsburg Winery, which is the largest of all Virginia wineries.  The following is a list of ideas for more fun things to do in Williamsburg VA on your upcoming trip. 


Splash Away at Water Country USA


One of the great summertime things to do in Williamsburg VA is spend a day at Water Country USA.  Operated by the Busch Entertainment Corporation, you can add this refreshing park to your Busch Gardens experience.  Enjoy the acres of rides that are sure to impress both children and adults.  Watch a show, like the Aqua X-treme gymnastics and high dive performance and grab a snack or meal at one of the park’s eateries.  You’ll have access to life jackets on all the water rides, for those with safety concerns.  The park is open from May to September and while hours vary with each month, generally the park opens at 10:00 a.m. and closes anywhere from 6-8:00 p.m.  Single day tickets cost $38.95 for adults and $31.95 for children ages 3-9.


Book a Yorktown Cruise or Charter Fishing Trip


Located at 4039 Ironbound Road in Williamsburg, Yorktown Cruises departs from historic nearby Yorktown.  On the Yorktown Lady, enjoy breakfast, a luncheon or dinner as you float down the Yorktown River.  Take a narrative tour or arrange to be on board for the sunset cruise, both offering enjoyable things to do in Williamsburg.  The Miss Yorktown and the Sea Spray are boats the company uses for its charter fishing and open boat trips.  Yorktown cruises operates from June through September, with cruises lasting from 4-8 hours depending on which tour you select.  Cruises depart seven days a week from Waterman’s Museum.  Prices per person can range from $20-$50, with rates between $20-$30 for children under 12.


Change Pace at Go Karts Plus


Put the petal to the metal at this fun family choice for things to do in Williamsburg VA.  Located at 6910 Richmond Road, this fun park features games and attractions that are sure to add a different flavor to your Williamsburg vacation.  Go Karts Plus is open from March to October, with varying hours by season.  In the summer, it is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.  While the park is free to enter, each ride and attraction requires a certain amount of tickets, ranging from 1-6.  Each “ticket” sells for $1.50 individually, or $1.25 if you buy a 20 ticket book.  You can find a “Three Free Tickets” offer online or at select publications found throughout Williamsburg hotels. 


Visit a Historic Plantation


Bring your group to either Berkley Plantation or Shirley Plantation for a tour of one of these beautiful historic plantations.  The Berkley Plantation was the birthplace of 9th President William Henry Harrison, and was home to two of Colonial Williamsburg’s most influential families, the Harrisons and the Carters.  Tours of the 1726 house are conducted by guides in period clothing and you can explore the grounds and gardens on your own.  The Berkley Plantation is open daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and admission is $11 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12, and $7.50 for students from 13-16 years old.  Shirley Plantation was founded in 1613, making the oldest in the state.  The main house dates to 1723, and has served as a home to the Hill-Carter family for centuries.  Robert E. Lee’s mother was born at the Shirley Plantation.  Features such as the “flying staircase” are the only remnants of the 18th century Queen Anne style of architecture.  It is open every day year round and hours are from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Admission is $10.50 for adults, $9.50 for seniors, $7 for ages 6-18 and free for children under 6.  Both Plantations are set along the James River on Route 5 between Richmond and Williamsburg, and each should make your list for things to do in Williamsburg and the surrounding area.


Enjoy an Evening out at the Haunted Dinner Theater


For things to do in Williamsburg VA that will have you talking long after you return home, consider adding a fun night out at the Haunted Dinner Theater.  This creative and exciting interactive experience involves special effects, magic tricks and music performed by talented actors.  While you watch the show, enjoy the tasty selections of the 71-item Captain George’s all you can eat buffet.  The entertainment experience here is sure to please all in your group.  Shows vary, so be sure to check ahead of time for tickets and show information.  Each show costs $39.95 for adults and $28.95 for children 12 and under.  Kids 4 and younger get in free.  Each show starts at 7:00 p.m.  The Haunted Dinner Theater is closed from November-June 17th.     


Head to the Virginia Living Museum


Located at 524 J Clyde Morris Blvd, the Virginia Living Museum is part wildlife park, science museum, botanical gardens and so much more.  Nature enthusiasts, budding scientists and animal lovers will appreciate adding this museum to their list of things to do in Williamsburg VA.  The interactive experiences found at the Virginia Living Museum will intrigue you for hours.  Get a taste of the indigenous plants and animals found along the Outdoor Boardwalk, at the Butterfly Garden and at the Coastal Plain Aviary.  The Virginia Living Museum is open from 9:00 a.m. - 5 p.m. year round, with hours changing to Noon - 5 p.m. on Sundays during the winter schedule.  Admission is $13 for adults and $10 for children ages 3-12.


Putt Your Way Around Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf Course


Ideal for families and couples looking for a quirky time, Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf is arguably the best miniature golf course in Virginia.  Learn about Blackbeard the Pirate and enjoy flowing waterfalls and a series of unique designs as you navigate this collection of challenging holes.  Enjoy two courses that go above and beyond the typical miniature golf experience.  Pirate’s Cove can be found at 2001 Mooretown Road, and is open from the end of March through the end of October.  Hours vary by season, but you can expect the park to be open from 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. in the Summer.  The Captain’s Course is $7.50 for adults and $6.50 for kids.  Blackbeard’s Challenge costs $7.95 for adults and $6.95 for kids.  You can play both courses, with all 36 holes costing $11.95 for adults and $10.50 for kids.
