Farm Bureau Live (also known as Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and formerly known as the Virginia Beach Amphitheater) is an outdoor performance center home to 20,000 seats and featuring all types of shows that play rain or shine. Farm Bureau Live shows at the outdoor concert stage are often some of the best shows playing in the region and include stars like Rihanna, Jimmy Buffet, Katy Perry, Bob Seger, and Keith Urban, covering an array of music genres. Farm Bureau Live also welcomes touring festivals, which are generally limited to music festivals from all around the country, like the Vans Warped Tour, along with folk, hip hop, rock, country, rock, reggae, alternative, soul, and more.
Note: Originally dubbed the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Virginia, and though still referred to by the name it has held for fourteen years, the amphitheater has been renamed Farm Bureau Live at Virginia Beach after receiving new sponsorship from Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance in 2010.
The Farm Bureau Live was heading down the road to success even before the massive project was completed southeast of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk in 1996. With no other such concert venue in the area, music lovers near and far anticipated opening day and the months after to hear what was bound to be a legendary line up of famous band after famous artist. The largest names in the industry haven’t hesitated to play the theater, a monstrosity of a venue with incredible acoustics that have created some of the most memorable shows in the country.
Farm Bureau Live Seating Chart
As with many other modern amphitheaters in the world, like Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati Ohio, Farm Bureau Live offers both inexpensive lawn seats surrounding the stage toward the back along with designated seating flanking the stage within dozens of rows. Most all concerts and festivals offer a smoke-free, alcohol-free part of the lawn sectioned off for all to enjoy. For any shows designated as “family” events, anyone twelve and under receives complimentary entry for each paid lawn ticket for an adult. VIP tickets are available by contacting the facility directly to make arrangements.
With 20,000 seats, Farm Bureau Live is known to bring in a lot of traffic when big shows come to town. Five large parking areas, each adjacent to the theater, offer plenty of space for those driving to a show. Often, the price of parking is included with the ticket prices. Anyone with lawn seats can either bring their own lawn chair or rent from the facility for a small fee. Blankets are another option for lawn seating. Likewise, to stay as comfortable as possible in the case of inclement weather, rain jackets and umbrellas are wise items to tote along. Parents are also permitted to bring strollers for small children. If sitting on the lawn, the huge screens by the main stage offer better viewing.
Concession stands complete the picture at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater. Everything from burgers and pizza to beer and other alcohol can be purchased onsite. For most shows, ticket-holders are allowed a small clear bag of food and a sealed water bottle.
The amphitheater is located at 3550 Cellar Door Way. It is roughly nine miles from the main beach strip along Atlantic Avenue, seven miles from Pembroke’s Town Center, and less than a half-hour from several area beaches. There are many nearby hotels available for concert-goers hoping to stay a night or two, including Courtyard Marriott Oceanfront North and the Hilton Garden Inn Virginia Beach Town Center.
