Williamsburg

If you’re considering a trip to Historic Williamsburg Virginia, you’ll be glad to hear that a Williamsburg vacation has more to offer than your average Virginia city. In addition to the famed Colonial Williamsburg, the largest living history museum in the world, Williamsburg Virginia is also home to the amusement park Busch Gardens, and within short driving distance to the historic Jamestown settlement as well as the Yorktown Victory Center.

Please the kids on your trip to Williamsburg Virginia and hit Busch Gardens first. Take a ride on the Loch Ness Monster, a double looping roller coaster, or relax on the Busch Gardens grounds for a summer concert series featuring music from rocking & roll to country, to Motown favorites and kids concerts. One day admission to the park is over $50 for an adult and under $45 for children ages 3 - 6 years.

Next you’ll want to visit Colonial Williamsburg, the restored 18th-century capital of Britain’s largest and wealthiest settlement in the New World. The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation attempts to interpret the origins of American life through reenactment of the daily life of colonials in a 301-acre area populated with restored, reconstructed, and historically furnished buildings. Fully costumed Colonial Williamsburg Foundation re-enactors, not allowed to break character, tell the stories of men and women of the 18th-century city, from all races and backgrounds. Admission to Colonial Williamsburg is free. However, to enter some of the historic building it is under $40 for adults, and runs $15 for youths 6 -17, and well worth the price for the variety of fun educational activities and exhibits.

After a visit to Colonial Williamsburg, take a short drive or shuttle service to Jamestown, the first permanent English colony in the New World. The Jamestown Settlement, jointly administered by the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities and the National Park Service, maintains a mission to preserve and protect the original site of the first permanent English settlement in North America. Jamestown Settlement administrators and caretakers try to tell the stories of the three Colonial Jamestown cultures; European, North American and African, in order to better understand 17th century America and to promote the preservation of Jamestown history. Admission to Jamestown is only $8 for adults and all youths under 16 are admitted free.

Cap off your Historic Williamsburg tour with a visit to Yorktown, what was once a thriving seaport in historical times that welcomed hundreds of ships a year importing and exporting cargo between the colonies and England. Experiences the Watermen’s Museum, the Yorktown Trolley, or see the Yorktown Victory Monument, which was commissioned by the Continental Congress in 1781 and completed in 1884 to commemorate the victory at Yorktown.

During your Williamsburg Virginia vacation, be sure to also check out the Williamsburg Winery, Virginia’s largest winery with an annual production of 60,000 cases. The Williamsburg Winery accounts for almost one-quarter of all wine production in Virginia and serves as a wonderful accompaniment to your Historic Williamsburg Virginia visit. Tours and tastings are offered daily at the Williamsburg Winery. Contact the Williamsburg Winery about hosting your next special event or wedding.

Whatever you decide to do on your next Williamsburg vacation, whether it be visit the Historic Williamsburg attractions or spend a day at Busch Gardens, remember to bring your camera to record all the wonderful memories you’re sure to make in Williamsburg Virginia.
