From the Crystal Mountain summit, you can see some of the most striking views in Washington state. Crystal Mountain ski vacations are popular among travelers because of the resort’s wide variety of trails and location just 76 miles from Seattle, but as the resort is located on the boundary of Mt Rainier National Park, you can also see beautiful vistas of the Cascades once you reach the peaks.
Crystal Mountain Ski Resort - Summit
The Summit House is located at 6,872 feet, so it isn’t the highest peak in the ski area, but it’s striking nonetheless, and it’s particularly easy to reach, since the opening of the Mt Rainier Gondola, which takes visitors straight from the base to the summit. The Summit House Restaurant is a great place for a hot meal, as you can enjoy views of Rainier while sampling the delectable food, so even if your ski skills aren’t up to the task of getting yourself back down the mountain, it’s well worth the gondola ride just to see the view and grab a bite to eat.
A consideration when planning Crystal Mountain ski vacations is to check availability of nearby accommodations and make reservations well in advance, especially during holidays and the high season, as lodging is not available at the Summit. Your choice of lodging includes quality inns and resorts along with cozy cabins, bed and breakfasts, and vacation rentals. If you’re willing to make the 76-mile drive twice in one day, you can also stay at one of the Seattle hotels and come down in your rental car. In addition, be sure to check the weather conditions to ensure that the slopes are open for skiing and snowboarding, and that the powder is good.
