Ocean Shores Washington

Ocean Shores

Ocean Shores is a six mile long peninsula that juts out into the water between Greys Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. At Ocean Shores Washington, the beaches form part of the state highway system, so you can drive your car on the beach.

This area of the Washington coast is full of wildlife, since it has plenty of habitats for migratory birds. Within this six-mile peninsula there are more than 270 species in the Ocean Shores area.

Everything you could want from recreation on the Washington coast is what you can find at Ocean Shores. You can go whale watching in Westport or drive north on 109 to see Copalis Beach and Ocean City and see incredible beach views on the way. A short drive north from Ocean Shores Washington on highway 101 brings you to the Hoh rainforest and Lake Quinalt. This is where you can find the largest spruce tree in the world, and enjoy incredible trails and cascading waterfalls.

One of the best places to fish near the Washington coast, Duck Lake, is filled with fresh water fish. There are 23 miles of waterways to explore, so this is one of the best spots for reeling them in and enjoying a day of the water. Also, near the Greys Harbor entrance, there are over 1,500 acres of natural coasts. There is a ton of wildlife here, so this is a great spot for combing the beach or just having a relaxed stroll.

Other popular activities in Ocean Shores is beachcombing. The North Jetty has the largest amount of interesting marine items washing on the shore, like shells, sand dollar and agates. In the evening, there are lots of campfires at Damon Point, making this part of the Washington Coast a fun place day or night.

Ocean Shores Washington is flat for the most part, so this is a bicyclist's dream. There are tons of roads going through Ocean Shores, with many of these going through scenic areas on the side that borders the water. Birdwatching, for the local and migrating birds, is a popular activity, with this area of the Washington coast being a stopover for rare birds. Clamming is also a fun thing to do. You can easily get a license from the hardware store. Just be sure it is the clam season or you may risk a fine.

The Shilo Inn at Ocean Shores offers beach-front rooms for visitors seeking Washington Coast lodging. There are lots of different things to do in the area, so hotels are often booked. It's wise to call ahead, especially in the summer season. The Quinault Beach Resort and Marina is also right on Ocean Shores, and is the newest hotel and resort to open. There are incredible views from every window, so if you're seeking only the best Washington Coast lodging, this is the place for you.
