San Juan Islands Restaurants

The San Juan Islands restaurants offer something for everyone, so keeping your group satisfied on the dining front shouldn't be difficult. There are upscale eateries for those who wish to enjoy a fine dining experience, and you can always get a pizza or a quick sandwich if that's all you have in mind. Seafood is in especially good supply at the San Juan Islands restaurants, and since there is a healthy agricultural industry in Washington, extra fresh ingredients for all kinds of dishes are often in good supply.

Most of the San Juan Islands restaurants can be found in and around the Friday Harbor area on San Juan Island. As such, this is the top area to visit if you want dining variety. Regional fare is often at the heart of things, though you can also enjoy other kinds of cuisine, such as Thai and Mexican. The Friday Harbor area is also home to the largest collection of San Juan Islands hotels, and some of these hotels have their own restaurants for guests and non-guests to take advantage of.
Should you have a kitchen at your disposal during a stay on San Juan Island, cooking your own meals can also be an option. Groceries can be purchased at Friday Harbor stores, and if you like fresh seafood, it's on offer at the town's seafood market. This market is known as Friday Harbor Seafood, and it can be more specifically found at the Friday Harbor marina.
The Friday Harbor restaurants aren't the only restaurants that are available on the island of San Juan. Many visitors to the island also choose to dine at the Roche Harbor Resort. Two restaurants and two cafes can be found at this resort village on the island's north end, and if you need a pick-me-up or a sweet treat, there's also an espresso bar and ice cream shop that is open from mid-May through December.
The San Juans dining options become scarcer as you move away from San Juan Island. That being said, Orcas Island offers many eateries, and there are restaurants on Lopez Island as well that you can consider visiting. The Orcas Island restaurants are found around the island, with the villages of Eastsound, Orcas, and Olga being especially good places to go when you get hungry. Eastsound boasts the most restaurants of any Orcas Island destination.
As for the smaller and less developed Lopez Island, its restaurants are few in number, though you should have little trouble getting something for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You can find a grocery store in Lopez Village should you wish to prepare your own meals, and during the summer months, the Lopez Farmers Market offers local produce on Saturday mornings.
The rates at many San Juan Islands hotels include a continental or full breakfast, so you might not have to worry about your morning meals when staying overnight. You can certainly expect to start your day off with meal at the San Juan bed and breakfasts. If your hotel has a restaurant or restaurants, then you will have convenient places to eat later in the day. When cooking on your own proves to be a tempting proposition, plenty of guest units at the San Juan hotels have kitchenettes or full kitchens.
Most vacation rentals in the San Juan Islands also have kitchens, so you can go that route as well when looking to prepare your own meals. Camping brings in a whole new set of options in terms of San Juans dining, as you can usually do some grilling at your site. Many vacation rentals also have grills, and there are grill and picnic areas at some of the hotels around the islands.
Finally, when it comes to dining in the San Juan Islands, there are a variety of tours and cruises that include meals. Perhaps a romantic dinner cruise will be something that you're interested in, or maybe you'll fancy an extended kayaking tour that includes a seafood lunch on the beach. The options are numerous, and since you never know what kind of dining experience a specific tour or cruise may have to offer, weighing them all can be a good idea.
