Kanawha County Parks and Recreation is responsible for operating and maintaining six distinct recreation facilities in Kanawha County near Charleston, West Virginia. Of the six recreational facilities one of the most popular when it comes to West Virginia golf is Big Bend Golf Course. The Kanawha County Parks and Recreation network comprises more than 2500 acres and encompasses seven different parks. The park consists of both very densely wooded areas as well as very developed areas full of excellent facilities and recreational opportunities. Within the seven parks there are three large public swimming pools, myriad recreational activities, reception and meeting room rentals, shelter rentals and three other golf courses. These other golf courses in West Virginia, scattered through Kanawha County, include Coonskin Golf Course, an 18-hole executive course, Shawnee Golf Course, a nine hole course complete with a pro shop. The fourth course is a mini-golf course located in Pioneer Park.
