Ski Resort in Davis, West Virginia lies Blackwater
State Falls Park, a natural gem in its own right. It’s
one of the most popular attractions
in West Virginia and exhibits many of the same favorite
attributes, and more, as numerous outdoor recreation areas
in the state. Transportation to Blackwater Falls West
Virginia by car is about three hours from Charleston,
Beckley, Summersville
and about two hours from Morgantown
and Snowshoe Ski Resort.
It’s one of the most visited attractions in the
state and is well known for its extreme natural beauty.
In every season there are plenty of things to do at
Blackwater Falls WV. In the winter months many people
head out for some West Virginia skiing
at Timberline or at Canaan
Valley Ski Resort, both in Canaan
Valley. Many skiers head to Blackwater Falls for a
visit and a break from the slopes. During the winter months
cross country skiing is a popular activity with more than
ten miles of trails, many of them maintained and groomed
especially for cross country skiers. There is a full service
center, open from mid-December through to mid-March, that
offer rentals and lessons. Twenty miles of all-level hiking
trails are also available at Blackwater Falls State Park
and can be tackled in every season, some easier than others.

The Nature Center is the ideal place for nature lovers to visit. It’s open every day from Memorial Day weekend through to Labor Day. There are numerous displays highlighting the natural elements surrounding Blackwater Falls and also exhibits about the park’s wildlife. The center also offers a multitude of resources and information on the park’s natural resources. At Pendleton Lake at Blackwater Falls West Virginia there are scads of games and boating available from Memorial Day through Labor Day, between 10am and 6pm. Game courts offer fun games and sports for kids like tennis, volleyball and basketball. Unfortunately, the lake doesn’t offer swimming any longer.
Blackwater Falls WV also provides a petting zoo, pony rides and horseback riding for families and children. Blackwater Falls stables are open from mid-May to Labor Day. The trail rides available are geared towards kids six and older and last for one exciting hour! Families and kids also love the fun and educational West Virginia tours led by park rangers. Naturalists offer a diverse array of educational programs about the cultural and natural history of Blackwater Falls State Park throughout the year. These programs offer a fantastic way to explore the park and discover all the fascinating natural aspects throughout it. Visitors should call ahead to arrange tours.
The cool mountain air throughout Blackwater Falls WV offers welcome respite from hot summers. Blackwater Lodge offers accommodation in the park with access to a large swimming pool. At Canaan Valley Resort there’s also accommodations and a massive, outdoor heated pool. West Virginia campgrounds can be found at Blackwater Falls as well. There are both tent and trailer units totaling sixty-five available for camping. All sites include hot showers, a Laundromat and a dump station. Thirty of the sixty-five sites have electric hookups. Open from the end of April through to the end of October each year, visitors are able to camp for a maximum of two weeks.
From early spring to summer the river is very well stocked with trout. Fishing is also possible at Pendleton Lake with both being catch and release areas. While visiting the park make sure to soak in the surrounding beauty. Many say there isn’t a prettier place to visit in West Virginia. Don’t forget your camera either. Blackwater Falls is named after the river gleaming with amber-hued water and plunging ferociously more than four stories through an almost ten-mile gorge. The falls are one of the most photographed areas in the state and a sight sure to stay in your memory for a very long time.
