Though there aren't too many special golf events in West Virginia around Beckley, there are a number of great courses that make Beckley a top golfing destination. There are also some well-equipped Beckley hotels to accommodate your stay. The highest rated West Virginia golf destinations in the city include the Brier Patch Golf Links and the Stonehaven Course at The Resort at Glade Springs. The Brier Patch is an 18-hole course featuring more than 7,000 yards of golf and a par 72. The slope rating, on blue grass, is 140 and overall course rating is 74. First opened in the later 1990s the brier Patch was designed by Bill War and Jim Justice.
Other top rated West Virginia golf cities include Clarksburg, Wheeling, Charleston and Bridgeport. Wheeling is known for being close to a few popular West Virginia casinos while Bridgeport is home to one of the only main golf events West Virginia hosts. Nationwide Tour's Pete Dye Classic, now called the Player's Cup, is the very first of nationwide golf events West Virginia has that will feature a $180,000 prize. It kicks off annually at the Pete Dye Golf Club in later summer and is limited to 144 players. In Bridgeport there are great courses to choose from including a number of both nine and eighteen hole facilities.
