Wyoming Events

Wyoming events and festivals are one of the best reasons to visit the state.  In addition to camping, hiking and great outdoor activities throughout Yellowstone National Park, events and festivals in Wyoming celebrate the importance of this wide-open area to the history and development of modern-day America.  Many of the most popular Wyoming events are celebrated during the summer, but travelers will be able to find some great festivals throughout the year, especially during holidays such as Christmas.  Best of all, many Wyoming events can be enjoyed free of charge, making them the perfect addition to Cheyenne day trips or Wyoming suggested itineraries.

The Daddy of Them All, Wyoming Frontier Days is an annual event that is hosted in the capital city of Cheyenne. This event brings thousands upon thousands of people to Wyoming every year. The Daddy of Them All was a phrase coined in 1919 when Cheyenne gained worldwide recognition for having the biggest and best rodeo in the West, Wyoming Frontier day’s gives everyone the opportunity to see a real live action rodeo.

In 1896, after Wyoming became a state, a few hands from the nearby Two Bar Ranch gathered for a contest of ranch hand skills. The next year, the mayor decided to add a spin to the cowboys’ casual contest. In addition to rodeo, the early years the show offered vaudeville shows, moving pictures balls, vendors, even opera. This process eventually led to the modern day Frontier Day. Now days in conjunction with the festival, The Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale happen as well, giving patrons the opportunity to view western styled and themed art at its finest.

These Wyoming events are just the start. Wyoming Frontier days offers on and off park events. The on park events include a carnival, Indian Village, Wild Horse Gulch, Chuck Wagon Cook Off, Chute Tours, Oasis Area, and Rodeo Challenges. The Off Park events are Grand Parades, Pancake Breakfast, The United States Air Force Thunderbirds and the Static Air show.

Wyoming has an official Wyoming State Calendar of Events that gives tourists the exact dates of the popular Wyoming events. Other than Frontier Days, the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show happens in June, and then The Grand Teton Music Festival starts the beat in July, followed by the Annual Wyoming State Museum’s Outdoor Arts & Crafts Festival. In September the Flying Cowboys, pilots from five states with 200 planes for display and flight from dawn to dusk. If your primary reason for a vacation to Wyoming is an event, be sure to keep up-to-date with the Wyoming State Calendar of Events, as you would want to plan your flight accordingly.

Wyoming events in the winter are just as fun and entertaining. In November, the Cheyenne Christmas Parade, Craft Show & Concert features a concert and festivities during and after the parade. Also, in November, the NRCA Finals Rodeo takes place.  In December, Wyoming is the central location for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. One of the most popular attractions for skiing and snowboarding is Jackson Hole Resort. This resort and the city of Jackson bring thousands of visitors to Wyoming every year.  With so much to see and do in Wyoming, a trip to the Equality State should be on your Wyoming State calendar of events.
