he Dutch capitol of St. Maarten, Philipsburg, is crowded with shops, restaurants, and casinos. Cars are discouraged from using the cobbled Front Street, and pedestrian areas have been widened. It is the place to go for lots of friendly sights, sounds, and action.
Duty-free prices on the island can be 25 to 50 percent lower than in the US and Canada. Shop for designer clothing, jewelry, liquor, crystal, stoneware, linen, leather, and electronics from all over the world. The island's prized Guavaberry Liqueur is made from rum and the wild local berries that grow only on St. Martin.
Maho Plaza, east of Philipsburg along the coast, is another popular destination for shopping in the Caribbean.
