Buenos Aires Events

Buenos Aires events take place throughout the year and celebrate a range of festivities and cultural events. There are popular, annual festivals in Buenos Aires that draw hundreds of thousand of people from all over South America as well as smaller events that are concentrated in local, provincial communities. From alluring fashion events and film festivals to the celebration of Argentine independence and the ubiquitous tango festivals and events, there is always something fun and interesting happening in Buenos Aires. Sometimes the best events in Buenos Aires are the ones happening right outside your door, whether it be a wine dinner at a local restaurant, a reading at a bookstore, or an evening fireworks celebration.

The Buenos Aires Tango Festival may just be the biggest and most popular of all Buenos Aires events throughout the year. Tango was born in Argentina, and as this is the city’s largest celebration of the indigenous dance, it is quite obviously the largest celebration of its kind in the world. Of all the festivals in Buenos Aires, this ranks among the most fun. It is nine days of dancing, free classes, tango contests, drinking and eating. The entertainment district along Avenida Corrientes closes down completely for a massive dance-off during this period. If you are an avid tango dancer, you could plan an entire vacation around this very event. If you happen to be in town at the time, you will be able to see one of the best events in Buenos Aires. You may as well take advantage of the free classes, and you have to check out the frenetically paced and passionate tango dance off’s.

Fashion Buenos Aires is another of the most alluring events in town. It happens twice yearly (March and September) and regularly is held at the Hilton Buenos Aires. Fashionistas and popular designers and models from around the world descend upon the capital of Argentina. The latest in winter fashions are rolled out in March, while the new summer collections are displayed in September. It is a five-day event each time. You only have to pay a fee (usually around ten dollars) to see the catwalk shows, hang around some seriously beautiful people, and most importantly, you will have access to all of the latest fashion fads and trends before anyone else. The two fashion expositions draw close to 15,000 people every day, making them some of the most popular Buenos Aires events.

The Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente is one of the most popular festivals in Buenos Aires. It is a renowned ten-day event that celebrates local as well as international, independent filmmaking. You will be able to see a fabulous selection of screenings of brand new films and take part in parties around the city. It is held between mid and late April each year and draws thousands from all over the region, as well as Europe and North America.

These are just three examples of some of the best events in Buenos Aires. There are plenty more to discover, and the best way to do so is to visit and begin to explore on your own or with your group. From downtown to surrounding areas like San Telmo, regular markets or impromptu tango celebrations in the streets or other unexpected small events can also add a touch of fun to your vacation.
