Sucre Weather

Sucre weather is largely influenced by elevation, especially as things relate to temperature. The city sits at an elevation of approximately 9,000 feet above sea level, so it rarely gets too hot. Generally speaking, daytime highs average in the 70's for each month, with the daytime lows falling somewhere between 41 degrees and 54 degrees depending on the month. It all combines to make 66 degrees the average annual temperature. You can compare this to La Paz, which has an average annual temperature of around 57 degrees. As for rainfall, Sucre averages about 29 inches of rain on an annual basis.

Summer: Since Bolivia is found in the southern hemisphere, its summer season is opposite that of northern hemisphere countries such as the United States and Canada. In other words, summer in Sucre basically runs from late December to late March. November has an average high of around 79 degrees and is the warmest month of the year on average. The average highs for the other summer months aren’t much lower. As for precipitation, summer is when it rains the most, with January being the wettest month.

Fall: Between late March and late June, Sucre usually enjoys rather fair weather. Temperatures average around 73 degrees during the day, with the lows averaging around 49 degrees. While it can rain from time to time, this is a relatively dry period. May to October is more specifically the dry season in Sucre, and it is widely considered to be the best time to visit.

Winter: Late June to late September. Much like fall, the winter season in Sucre is known for being on the fair side. It is also known for being a relatively dry period. As far as temperatures are concerned, it doesn’t exactly tend to get too cold in Sucre during the winter. Not when the sun is out, at least. The average high is actually around 72 degrees. On the cooler side of things, the average low is around 41 degrees.

Spring: Late September to late December. Should your Bolivia vacation see you arriving in Sucre during the spring season, you can generally expect the daytime temps for the city to hover somewhere in the 70's. It cools down considerably at night, as is common throughout the year, and the average low for the month is around 50 degrees. Preparing for a little rain from time to time is recommended, especially in late spring.
