Suggested Itineraries for Bolivia

Bolivia borders Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Paraguay, and Chile. Despite being surrounded by so many countries, Bolivia has maintained its own identity, and is home to some of the most well-preserved ancient ruins in the world. Suggested itineraries for Bolivia will generally direct travelers first to Las Paz, but there is plenty more to see and include in suggested itineraries for Bolivia.

Suggested itineraries for La Paz:

1-3 Days

Suggested itineraries for Bolivia usually start in La Paz for a reason. La Paz is the capital of Bolivia. If you only have a day or two to explore the city, a walking tour of the downtown area is a great idea. The Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the best places to start, and features both local and international artists. You can also plan to eat a meal or two out, as the downtown area has a number of excellent restaurants.

4-7 Days

With a few more days to spend with your suggested itineraries for La Paz, you will have time to see some additional sites in the city. If museums are your thing, the city has about ten of them, and you can spend a few days strolling the streets and milling about in the museums. Nightlife in La Paz can also be a lot of fun, with bars and pubs staying open late and being a popular spot for most of the locals. In the city, you'll also have plenty of opportunity for shopping. Whether it be the Calle Sagarnaga shopping center or one of the many shops that lines the streets, La Paz has a surprising number of stores and malls.

7+ Days

If you have more than a couple of days for your suggested itineraries for La Paz, you'll want to get out of the city. Your Bolivia itinerary should include tours, treks, and climbing. Visit the ruins of Tiahuanaco, and make sure to spend at least an afternoon at Lake Titicaca. Since Bolivia is one of the smaller countries in South America, you won't spend too much time traveling between areas, and you may even consider a trip to Sucre if you have the time.

Whether you have the luxury of planning a Bolivia itinerary for a month, or have only a few days, you'll want to plan your Bolivia itinerary ahead of time. Decide in advance whether you will want to see the city, the country, or everything in between, and treat yourself to a tour of the area. Bolivia is worth taking time to visit.
