If you are a fan of clothing-optional beaches, then you won’t want to overlook Praia do Pinho when trying to plan a Brazil escape. Found in the southern state of Santa Catarina, this nudist beach is among the most renowned beaches of its kind in all of Brazil. In fact, it was the first beach in the country to be sanctioned as clothing-optional. The year of this sanctioning was 1987, and while Brazil still isn’t home to a ton of nude beaches, the original created a small movement of sorts.
While Praia do Pinho is a clothing-optional beach, there is a certain saying among the nudists that frequent the rather popular strip of sand. That saying is "clothing is not an option." In other words, all visitors are essentially expected to take it all off. Wear a bathing suit, and you might be frowned upon. Also, unaccompanied men are not allowed access to Praia do Pinho unless they can prove that they are current members of an organization that is known as the International Naturist Federation.
A certain part of Praia do Pinho actually caters to people who prefer keeping their clothes on, so you don’t have to go au naturel if you don’t want to when looking to enjoy some beach time in the resort town of Balneario Camboriu. As for the kinds of things that you will find at Praia do Pinho, there is a small hotel, as well as a restaurant. Visitors can also take advantage of the resident snack bar, and both lounge chairs and beach umbrellas can be rented. There is a small fee for parking at this rather liberal stretch of sand.
When Balneario Camboriu visitors aren’t baring it all on the sands of Praia do Pinho, they can stay busy any number of ways. This popular vacation destination is home to some excellent restaurants, for example, and you can take a scenic ride on a cable car. Visiting the Beto Carrero World theme park is just one more option for things to do, and the nightlife is quite healthy, especially in the summer season.
