Puerto Montt Chile

A Puerto Montt vacation is the perfect choice for those who enjoy the outdoors. Puerto Montt Chile is located in the southern region of the country and is a busy port of call for boating tours of the scenic lake and channel area. Puerto Montt travel can also include some of the best fly fishing to be found in the region. When sightseeing in the downtown area, a short walk (about ten minutes) will get you to the busy harbor, where you can watch local fishermen unload their catch of the day.

The marketplace at Angelmo Harbor is one of the busiest in the area, with vendors selling everything from colorful handcrafted wool clothing and boots to fresh produce and seafood, including the region's famous pink salmon. Whether you're looking for dinner, a souvenir or your trip, or are just looking, a trip to the market is one of the unique activities in the city and one that you're sure to remember.

The downtown area of Puerto Montt Chile has shops, restaurants, and numerous historical attractions, including a church built by German settlers in 1856, the Jesuit bell tower built in 1894, the Juan Pablo II Municipal Museum with exhibits of archeological artifacts, a display of steam locomotives dating from the early 1900s, and a monument depicting the first German settlers arriving to Puerto Montt in 1852. There are still vintage residential and commercial buildings in the area built with a German architectural flair, including the Club Aleman restaurant, which is still owned by descendants of German settlers.

Within Puerto Montt Chile, visitors have opportunities for tours to nearby areas such as the Chiloe Archipelago and the Osorno volcano, located inside the Vicente Perez Rosalez National Park beside the Llanquihue and Todos los Santos lakes. At Chiloe Island, which is one of the largest islands in the region, stretches of peaceful beach are lined by steep, rugged coastline. The hills and valleys of the surrounding landscape are rich with color due to the island's rainy climate.

In addition to island trips, other outdoor activities can also be part of your journey. A Puerto Montt vacation can also include excursions throughout the waterways and channels of the Patagonia coast, lined with numerous islands, via small cruising vessels and ferries fitted with fully equipped cabins and amenities for guests' convenience. Puerto Montt travel cruises may include tours of the Torres del Paine National Park, Pio XI Glacier, Bernardo O'Higgins National Park, and the Southern Ice Fields, providing tourists a chance to see local wildlife, including penguin colonies and sea wolves.

Whether you plan to travel to Puerto Montt during the summer or winter season, vacation packages are available providing different travel options and deals. These include one-way tours to Puerto Natales with flights back to Puerto Montt, tours from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt, and tours that allow tourists to continue their Puerto Montt travel cruises excursion past Puerto Natales and on to Tierra del Fuego, at the southern tip of Chile. Packages often include hotels in Puerto Montt or other accommodation, as well as lower prices on transportation.

A Puerto Montt vacation can be accomplished by car or bus along the inland areas, except for the most southern region. The Carretera Austral is a scenic roadway extending from Puerto Montt to the village of O'Higgins at the base of the Southern Ice Fields. The highway runs for approximately 770 miles, affording tourists who travel to Puerto Montt a leisurely sightseeing adventure through the lush forest landscape.
