Ingapirca Ruins

The Ingapirca Inca ruins site is an easy day trip from the city of Cuenca, and many travelers take the trip to see this rare piece of history in Ecuador. One of the most striking features about this site is the Inca stone walls. The Incas are known for not using mortar in their construction, making their architectural accomplishments even more impressive. The carved blocks of stone that make up the Temple of the Sun were all carved individually by hand.

During a visit to Ingapirca, you will have the chance to see the large oval-shaped platform where all of these stones fit together perfectly. To learn even more about the history of the site and the construction of the temple, join a tour with a knowledgeable guide who will share his expertise about the Incas and their construction techniques.

The other striking quality of the Ingapirca Inca ruins is the Canari Walls. These walls were built by the Canari tribe, the group that occupied this area of Ecuador before being defeated by the Incas. When the Incas built the Temple of the Sun, they built right on top of the walls of much older buildings. This fact shows that a trip to the Ingapirca ruins will illuminate information from many different periods of history.

During your trip not only will you gaze in wonder at the Inca Stone Walls that fit together with such precision, but you will also ponder the people who built this temple and their traditions. If you’re looking to add some history to an adventurous trip in Ecuador, this is one site that should be at the top of your list.
