St. John is a 20-minute ferry ride away from its sister island, St. Thomas, but a world away in personality. Whereas St. Thomas is an upscale, developed resort destination, more than half of St. John's 19 square miles are national parkland. Cruz Bay is the main town on St. John, and most of the hotel accommodations are nearby. Campgrounds and villas are scattered around the coast.
