The best cities to watch fireworks are a matter of opinion. Fourth of July celebrations occur around the country and provide an opportunity for family and friend bonding, and while having a good old fashioned barbeque might be on the list of things to do for many, taking a trip for some great firework watching may be well worth the effort. Ranging across the nation are several of the best cities to watch fireworks on the Fourth, from New York and San Diego.

With the iconic sculpture of some of the nation’s most respected presidents, the Black Hills of South Dakota provide a truly patriotic location for a grand Fourth of July show, beginning with an interpretive tour of the artist’s studio, an air show by the Ellsworth Air Force Base, and a grand display of fireworks lighting up the presidents’ faces with majesty. Four nights of fireworks grace the eyes of folks who plan a visit to Williamsburg, Virginia, where much of the original political independence activities took place before the American Revolution, a celebration known as Boom’n July from July 1 – 4 at Busch Gardens. In Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown, there is a selection of family oriented activities and forms of entertainment, including parades, concerts, and more fireworks.

Nothing screams summertime more than a beach celebration, and one of the best Fourth of July beach celebrations takes place in and around Miami, Florida. A swearing in of the country’s naturalized citizens commences the festivities that continue with live music and fireworks at nightfall. Patriotism reigns in the city where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were first composed, Philadelphia, where visitors can spend a day or two touring the iconic symbols of our nation’s history, including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Fourth of July celebrations begin with a parade that concludes on the steps of the Art Museum with a beautiful display of fireworks and music.

Known for great food, Chicago commences July 4th celebrations with the Taste of Chicago festival, in which visitors are welcomed to sample the variety of foods offered by the great city. Lake Michigan provides a most enchanting backdrop for the impressive fireworks displays, including that on July 3 to be seen from Monroe Harbor with music provided by the Army Band and on July 4 from the Navy Pier with music from its own Fourth of July album.

One of the largest celebrations in the nation is to be found in New York City with the Brooklyn Independence Parade, the New York Philharmonic concert, the Water Street Fourth of July Festival with tons of vendors and arts and crafts, and the explosive display of fireworks sponsored by Macy’s over the East River.

Among the country’s most patriotic monuments are those found in Washington DC, and so it is only fitting to look forward to a fine display of fireworks and July Fourth celebrations in our capital city, which is appropriately massive with an immense parade, special performance music, and a splendid fireworks display over the Washington Monument.
