Riu is a hotel and resort chain that is based in Mallorca, Spain. Its properties, many of which offer all-inclusive packages, total more than 100 and can be found in nearly 20 different countries. Few hotel chains rival Riu in popularity when it comes to the Caribbean especially, and it is among the five largest hotels in its home country of Spain.
Most of the Riu hotels are found on glorious beaches and bask in the sun most of their days. In recent years, however, the company has made a push to introduce properties in cities as well. The newer city line of hotels carry the name of the Riu Plaza, and as is true of the chain's beach hotels, these urban retreats offer great facilities and plenty of amenities in the guest units.
Riu Palace Riviera Maya
A good number of Riu hotels can be found in Mexico's Riviera Maya region. An example is the aptly named Riu Palace Riviera Maya. You can find this dazzling retreat on a spectacular white-sand beach, and dotting the grounds are plenty of tropical trees. It's the kind of environment that repeat patrons of the Riu brand are used to, and it never gets old. When guests aren't relaxing on the beach during their stay at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya, they can enjoy any number of other activities that are included in the all-inclusive rates. These activities include things such as snorkeling, kayaking, volleyball, and tennis. Guests can also treat themselves to one complimentary scuba diving lesson in the resort's dynamic pool, and it doesn't cost extra to step into a sauna, hop in the hot tub, or fit a workout in at the gym. Tasteful guest units that are well-equipped only accentuate the appeal of the Riu Palace Riviera Maya, and there are plenty of things to do off the grounds for those who wish to explore the region.
Not too far north of the Riu Palace Riviera Maya is the Riu Cancun, and it too can make a wonderful base when visiting the Riviera Maya region. Once again, an immaculate beachfront location is among this Riu property's main attributes, and guests can take advantage of numerous amenities while relaxing in their comfortable quarters. Standard in-room amenities include satellite TV, a mini bar, a liquor dispenser, air conditioning, and a safe to store your valuables in while you're out having a blast. Outside of the rooms, guests at the Hotel Riu Cancun will find a gym, a tennis court, three amazing swimming pools, a hot tub, a nightclub, and a pair of conference rooms. These are only some of the facilities, and thanks in part to the "RiuLand" kids' club, younger guests can have just as much fun as adults.
Riu Hotel Aruba
Aruba is another Caribbean destination that gets its fair share of visitors, and many of these visitors choose to stay at the all-inclusive Hotel Riu Palace Aruba. Easy to pick out among the hotels that can be found on Palm Beach, this large, whitewashed resort rises up around a central pool area that overlooks the sea. A sun terrace surrounds the pool, offering a good place to soak up some rays, and it's just steps to the sand should you prefer sunning on the beach. As is the case with many a Riu property, the Riu Hotel Aruba boasts a spa where guests can pamper themselves for an added fee. Also worth highlighting is the complimentary access to the onsite casino.
Riu Hotel in Jamaica
When looking to escape to the sunny and warm Caribbean, travelers are encouraged to keep Jamaica in mind. Idyllic beaches and relaxed vibes reign supreme along the Jamaica coast, and there are certainly plenty of good hotels and resorts to select from. Among these hotels and resorts are four Riu brand properties. They include the Hotel Riu Montego Bay, the ClubHotel Riu Negril, the Hotel Riu Palace Tropical Bay (also in Negril), and the ClubHotel Riu Ocho Rios. All rise up on stunning beaches like whitewashed beacons for the weary traveler and can be great places to play and stay when a break from the norm is in order.
