One of the biggest and best fireworks shows anywhere is in Sydney Australia. The Sydney Harbour Bridge serves as the centerpiece for the city's world-famous New Year fireworks extravaganza. There are plenty of prime viewing spots, though they tend to go fast, so you'll want to secure yours early. If you can't watch the Sydney New Years Eve 2016 fireworks in person, you can probably see the whole thing on TV. The event is broadcast around the world.

Another Australian city also puts on a great show. In Melbourne, the massive daylong celebration sees scores of people enjoying a variety of fun activities along the Yarra River mostly. At midnight, a spectacular fireworks display lights up the city sky. As is true of many destinations, Melbourne offers an early New Years fireworks display to go with its midnight show. The first sessions are geared towards families and usually start at around 9 p.m.

London also throws a good New Years Eve party and caps it all off with some great fireworks. Thousands gather along the River Thames to get a view of the midnight fireworks and light display show that is launched off the 440-foot-tall London Eye. Thanks to the height of this structure, the London New Years Eve fireworks display can be witnessed from numerous vantage points around the city. As such, if you can't make it into one of the viewing areas along the Thames, you shouldn't have trouble finding a good spot to take it all in from.

A number of European cities put on renowned fireworks displays. Although there was a spectacular Eiffel Tower fireworks display on New Years Eve 1999/2000, fireworks are not legal in Paris, and you are unlikely to see one again bar another millenium-type event. As for other European cities that are known for their fireworks and their all around New Years Eve celebrations, Edinburgh and Prague are among the best. Edinburgh doesn't have just a single night of fanfare, but four days of celebrations called Hogmanay.

Many of the best New Years Eve fireworks displays are offered in cities that are on the water. On the East Coast of the US, for example, both Boston and Baltimore offer spectacular New Years Eve pyrotechnic displays on the waterfront. There's also the New York City New Years Eve fireworks, which are part of one of the world's most renowned New Years Eve events.

Over on the West Coast, Seattle and San Francisco are among the best places to go if you want to catch an unforgettable New Years fireworks display. The San Francisco New Years Eve fireworks show attracts more than 150,000 people to the Embarcadero area, and should you be hoping to catch the Seattle New Years spectacular, you can witness fireworks being launched from the famed Space Needle.

Many destinations around the world deserve a nod when it comes to naming the best New Years Eve 2016 fireworks displays. The Las Vegas New Years Eve fireworks are certainly spectacular. In Vegas, fireworks for the main America's Party display are launched off the roofs of several casino hotels, including the MGM Grand and the Venetian.
