Snowboard terrain parks are a dime a dozen these days, so you don't have to go to the biggest and best resorts to enjoy a fun day of riding. There are some top snowboarding areas, and as you might imagine, many of them are found out West. The West isn't the only place that you will find excellent snowboarding areas, however. New England boasts a few gems, and if you find yourself in the Midwest, there will be plenty of places to spend your snowboarding holidays.
Most ski resorts across the country have snowboard terrain parks. This just shows how big and popular the sport has become in recent years. Your typical terrain park has a variety of jumps, a collection of rails and boxes to slide on, and walls to shoot up. Complementing the other attractions at many snowboard terrain parks are half pipes where the more courageous and talented tend to spend a lot of time perfecting their snowboarding tricks. The Tyrol Basin Ski Area in Wisconsin was among the first ski areas in the world to offer a terrain park, and it remains dedicated to the sport. As is common at so many snowboarding areas, Tyrol Basin now offers more than one terrain park. One of the parks is designed for beginners who aren't yet ready to hit the big stuff.
Many of the best snowboard mountains are found out West, with Colorado being a good place to go if you want to ride. There are any number of divine snowboarding areas in Colorado, so it's hard to go wrong. If you were to name the best of the best, however, then you might start with Crested Butte. This resort is known for offering some of the best snowboarding terrain in the entire world, and if you like the extreme, there's plenty of that to tackle.
When you're not shredding it up at Crested Butte during your Colorado escape, Vail and Breckenridge have little trouble keeping riders happy. Vail is one of the largest ski and snowboard resorts in the country and is known for the variety that its terrain offers. You can dip into bowls, hit glade after glade, cruise down long groomers, and enjoy some of the best terrain park action around at Vail.
Breckenridge is one of many Summit County resorts that deserves a look when trying to find good snowboarding areas. In addition to offering a ton of terrain and some great snowboard terrain parks, Breckenridge also offers some very lively nightlife. Almost 30 acres of the Breckenridge terrain is completely dedicated to snowboarders, and if you like half pipes, there's more than one to enjoy.
It's not all about Colorado when it comes to great snowboard mountains. Next door in Utah, snowboarding enthusiasts are almost guaranteed to have a blast at Snowbird, and if you're up for a Wyoming trip, Jackson Hole will be waiting. Snowbird is widely considered to be the best place to go snowboarding in Utah, partly because of its large size, its lofty altitude, and its fantastic snow. Snowbird averages around 500 inches of snow on an annual basis, so there's often tons of powder to play in. As for Jackson Hole, its open backcountry policy is reason enough to plan a visit.
The best snowboarding areas are known for the variety and expanse of their terrain. This is certainly the case at Whistler Blackcomb, which is the best of the best of Canada's ski and snowboard resort. There are more than 200 trails to choose from at Whistler Blackcomb, and the runs include glacier runs, bowl runs, and tons of tree runs. Add in the fact that this resort boasts the biggest vertical drop on the continent, and it only gets better.
California's Squaw Valley and Mammoth Mountain resorts are among the best in the land, and if you find yourself in the East, Vermont's Stowe Mountain and Maine's Sugarloaf can satisfy days of riding on end.
Whether you are only interested in snowboard terrain parks or you like it all when it comes to riding, there is definitely no shortage of great destinations. There's never been a better time to take snowboarding vacations when it comes down to it. Great snowboarding packages are out there, so you might take advantage of them when planning your next great snowboarding adventure.
