Hawaii timeshares are part of the history of the rapidly growing fractional ownership real estate industry in the United States. While the first timeshare in the world was at one of the ski resorts in the Alps of Switzerland in the early 1960s, the very first in the United States was a Hawaii timeshare rental on Kaanapali Beach on west Maui that was opened in the late 1960s. Since then, numerous Maui timeshares have sprung up around the island as well as on the other Hawaiian Islands.
The largest selection of cheap timeshares in Hawaii will be found on Oahu Island, home of the bustling metropolis of Honolulu and the legendary Waikiki Beach. Like Miami Beach in Florida, this area has Hawaii timeshares resorts and high-rise condominium complexes strung along miles of beach, with easy access to numerous dining spots, great shopping and nightlife, and access to all the things to do in Oahu.
Maui timeshares provide perhaps the largest choice of luxury resorts in properties like the Aston Kaanapali Shores set beautifully on the beach near Lahaina and the golf opportunities around Kapalua. One of the many Marriott Vacation Clubs (the Ocean Club) is located in Lahaina. This property offers one- and two-bedroom hotel style suites with kitchenettes and is a wonderful place for families with children. One swimming pool is a mini water park with slides, fountains, and waterfalls. Many of the Maui timeshares are resorts like this, including the Kaanapali Beach Resort, the original timeshare property. Staying at this Hawaii timeshare rental gives you one- or two-bedroom condominiums with full kitchens, washer and dryer, and all the comforts of home. There are also numerous facilities from massage services and a grocery store to a fitness center and scuba diving outfitter.
There are also a number of Hawaii timeshares located on the island of Kauai. One of the quieter properties is the Wyndham Makai Club at Princeville, offering modest townhouse type cottages with one bedroom and full kitchens. A similar modest property is the Kapaa Shore Resort with a great beach location, nice grassy areas, swimming pool, and good access to the island's attractions. A slightly more upscale Hawaii timeshare rental can be found at the Hanalei Bay Resort, which boasts a spectacular beachfront location, tennis courts, and two swimming pools. There are some hotel rooms and studios as well as one-, two-, and three-bedroom units with full kitchens and laundry facilities. There is an onsite grocery and sundries shop, lounge, and restaurant. There are also a number of timeshare vacation rentals on the island of Kauai, especially along the oceanfront areas of Kailua, Kona, and Hapuna Beach area. Many of these, like the lovely Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, are located near some of the many Hawaii golf courses on the island. It is part of the legendary Mauna Kea Beach Hotel complex and shares much of its beautiful grounds and acreage with that property. It offers 350 luxurious hotel style rooms and suites and all the facilities of a major resort complex.
