Mexico timeshares are available all over the country, with the biggest concentrations along the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and Pacific Ocean coastlines. Beach timeshares in Mexico has been around almost as long as the ones available in Hawaii and Florida.
You can find them along the Pacific coast from Acapulco to Puerto Vallarta and on the Costa Maya where you can enjoy the wonderful Mexico beaches as well as the mysterious Mayan ruins. You can find Cabo San Lucas timeshares and other Baja properties where you can enjoy some of the best deep sea fishing in the Western Hemisphere. You won't find a lot of Mexico timeshares inland in places like Mexico City, as fractional ownership real estate can really only be successful where large numbers of visitors come for vacations of at least a week at a time throughout the year. Look for the Mayan Palace in Mazatlan or the Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta. If the bustling resort of Cancun isn't for you, you can also find Mexico timeshares in nearby Cozumel; try the Wyndham El Cid.
There are an increasing number of Cabo San Lucas timeshares available, as the area becomes more and more popular as holiday destination, and even as a winter home for retirees from the northern United States and Canada. With suites more like hotel rooms (no fully equipped kitchens), the five-star Pueblo Bonita Sunset Beach is a beautiful luxury property with a variety of dining options on the premises. As in Cancun, you can look for Cabo San Lucas timeshares from reputable franchises like Hilton and Marriott. These international chains have properties around the world, so you are able to trade your vacation time in places as far flung as Hawaii and Florida, the Algarve region of Portugal, on the famous Las Vegas Strip, and on Phuket Island in Thailand. Hilton and Marriott both have properties in Cancun. Hilton and Sheraton have properties in Cabo San Lucas. Both Acapulco and Cabo have a number of excellent resorts that are not international franchises. Look for the Grand Mayan in Acapulco. The Fiesta Americana is a Mexican franchise with excellent properties in Los Cabos, Acapulco, and Cancun.
Whether you are considering a luxury Mexico timeshare purchase or a cheap one as a vacation rental, it pays to be a well informed consumer. These kinds of purchases and promotions have provided a ripe ground for scam artists all over the world and have a sometimes deserved reputation as a rip off. Consumers from the United States who are shopping outside of their own country have few of the protections that they do at home. Looking for a beach timeshare in Mexico or a free vacation rental in return for spending 90 minutes listening to a real estate promotion can have pitfalls for the unwary. This is particularly true around extremely popular resorts like Cancun where touts congregate on the sidewalks around major attractions and even at the airport to entice newcomers to high-pressure sales presentations—sometimes when the resort being "sold" doesn't even exist. However, you can find wonderful places to purchase or to stay in for free during your vacation if you do some research beforehand and have a clear idea of what you are looking for.
