Cyprus beaches package together the beauty of the Mediterranean with the unique beauty of Cyprus. While Cyprus is an island, it still contains a staggering array of beaches, from isolated and pristine to resort destinations. No matter what kind of beach destinations you have in mind, you can find it here.
If you really want to get away from it all in Cyprus, then the beaches that can be found on the undeveloped and protected Karpas Peninsula are the most ideal. At the end of this peaceful peninsula sits Golden Beach, and some would argue that it's the best beach on the island. The white sand gathers into amazing dunes at Golden Beach, and the waters of the Mediterranean are about as calm and inviting as can be. There are no facilities at this North Cyprus beach, and you can relax in virtual solitude.
The Cyprus beaches offer a lot in the way of variety, and those who prefer busy beaches with lots of facilities will find plenty of those as well. The Paphos beaches are some of the liveliest beaches in the country during the hot summer months, and tourists book package deals at the resorts and beach hotels that line the Paphos coast. Coral Bay boasts some of the best beaches in the Paphos area, especially for families who are looking for safe swimming conditions. Umbrellas and lounge chairs line the beaches on Coral Bay in the summer, and restaurants and bars are close by when food and refreshments are in order. In addition to considering a stay at a hotel or resort, anyone who is planning on visiting the soft and sandy Paphos beaches can also consider an apartment rental. The Paphos area is home to an impressive amount of apartment rentals, most of which feature kitchen and laundry facilities.
Heading southeast from Paphos on the road to Limassol, travelers can stop and enjoy one of the most picturesque beaches in the country. As legend would have it, Aphrodite's Rock & Beach, or Petra tou Romiou as it is locally known, is where the goddess Aphrodite was borne from the sea. Even if you only choose to take this mystic beach in from the road, it will prove spectacular. The deep blue waters of the Mediterranean are complemented by the bright colors of the white rocks, presenting a stunning natural display. Swimming and picnicking are among the top things to do at Aphrodite's Rock & Beach, as is watching the sunsets from the car park or the tourist pavilion. The beach is mostly rocky, though there are some softer, sandier areas that can serve the needs of visitors who wish to lounge around for a while.
Heading further east of Aphrodite's Rock & Beach, travelers will encounter an array of Limassol beaches. Some of the beaches in and around Limassol are busy during the summer months, while others manage to maintain a fair amount of solitude. The Limassol beaches that are found in town aren't the most attractive in the country, though they can suffice for a swim and some general fun. Outside of the city limits, beaches like Governor's Beach, Avdimou Beach, and Kourion Beach beckon those who are looking to get out of town for a while. A bus links Limassol to Governor's Beach, so you don't have to drive if you're staying at one of the downtown Limassol hotels and want to venture out for the day to relax. Governor's Beach is relatively busy, and it is known to host beach parties in the summer. As for Avdimou Beach, it's the most tranquil of the Limassol beaches, whereas Kourion Beach can be especially attractive after a tour of the Kourion ruins.
Much like Limassol, Larnaca has some good city beaches to choose from, and good area beaches are just a short drive away. Phinikoudes Beach is the main city beach in Larnaca, and it's a fine place to spend some time. An attractive, paved promenade backs Phinikoudes Beach, and an array of shops and restaurants are close by. Jet skiing, snorkeling, sailing, and paddle boating are just some of the things to do at Phinikoudes Beach, and lifeguards are on duty during the peak summer season. The hard-packed sand at the Larnaca area beaches isn't the best sand in the country, but these beaches can more than suffice when some fun in the sun is in order. Various hotels and resorts can be found along the coast of Larnaca Bay, and the area beaches often host beach parties.
While the Paphos beaches and the beaches that can be found between Limassol and Larnaca can fulfill your need for sun and sand, there are also some attractive ones near Cape Greco on the southeastern side. At the party-oriented resort of Agia Napa, the beaches are very crowded in the summer, with Nissi Beach being especially popular. Nissi Beach is long, and the water is shallow and relatively calm. Facilities abound at busy Cyprus beaches like Nissi Beach, as do accommodations. The beaches closer to Cape Greco offer more solitude if you're looking to escape the mega crowds at Agia Napa, and families and couples are encouraged to consider the more family-oriented beaches in nearby Protaras.
Holiday packages are plentiful in Agia Napa and Protaras, and much like Paphos, these are some of the best places to find resorts, beach hotels, and apartment rentals. It's worth noting that where you will find apartment rentals, you will also usually find villa rentals. The villa rentals are larger than the apartments, and often times, they are quite luxurious. It hardly gets better than a villa rental near a Cyprus beach.
