Las Vegas

Las Vegas is one of the world’s most famous resort cities. A verifiable entertainment hub, it is as lively as it is glitzy, offering an atmosphere of hyper-reality that few other destinations even come close to matching. Sure, gambling was originally the main draw, but Vegas has evolved considerably over time and is now more diverse than ever. In addition to tempting Lady Luck, today’s visitors come to soak up the pool parties, to dine at the city’s many wonderful restaurants, to see leading performers and production shows, and experience world class DJs at clubs like the 80,000 square foot Hakkasan. For people of virtually every age, there are myriad ways to stay busy during Las Vegas vacations. And, while deciding when to go can be a big decision, this is very much a destination that can be enjoyed year-round.

Casino hotels figure among the main things that Las Vegas is known for. These sprawling complexes, the largest and most dazzling of which are found on or near the famous Las Vegas Strip, have come a long way since Bugsy Siegel opened the Flamingo in 1946. Each new example aims to outdo the already established casino-hotels, which is a trend that basically characterizes everything in Las Vegas. Among the things that the top Las Vegas casino-hotels have to offer are world-class spas, high quality restaurants, and amazing swimming pools. If you’re not up for staying at such immense casino-hotels as the MGM Grand, Caesars Palace, or the Venetian, worry not. The Las Vegas hotels come in virtually all forms and cater to an array of budgets. You’ll also find apartment/condo rentals in and around town. The best lodging deals are often available off the Strip, with Downtown Las Vegas being a good place to begin budget-minded searches.

The Las Vegas attractions, as is true of the city’s hotels, offer something for everyone. Of course, Las Vegas makes a lot of its money catering to adults. Things like gambling, drinking, and sex are well-advertised, which helps to explain why Vegas is commonly called “Sin City.” It isn’t only about these kinds of elements, however. Not all of the Las Vegas shows are risqué, for example, and attractions like the Fremont Street Experience and The Forum Shops at Caesars can be ideal places to go for some good, clean fun. Other ideas for things to do in Las Vegas include hitting one of the city’s numerous bowling alleys, playing some tennis, and teeing it up for a round of golf. Visitors can also consider taking side trips to such places as the Bonnie Springs Ranch/Old Nevada, the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, and Valley of Fire State Park.

As a side note, there are plenty of free things to do in Las Vegas. This is especially good news if you end up blowing your money at the tables and still have time to spare on your Vegas vacation. Examples of Las Vegas activities that don’t cost anything include general strolling and sightseeing along the Strip, watching a Bellagio Fountain show, exploring the Wynn Conservatory, and taking in an evening eruption of the Mirage Volcano.

If you like nightlife, then Las Vegas is for you. Found along the Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas is a mind-boggling array of nightclubs, bars, lounges, and strip clubs. Major production shows, such as the various ones that are offered by Cirque du Soleil, only add to the evening entertainment options, and no discussion about Las Vegas nightlife would be complete without mentioning the city’s many wonderful restaurants and casinos. If you’re looking to switch it up when going out on the town during your Vegas vacation, you can check to see if any exciting pool parties are going on. Of course, pool parties can also be fun during the day. In any event, it should be noted that many of the Las Vegas bars and clubs don’t really get jumping until the midnight hour approaches. This allows for plenty of time to have dinner and maybe even see a show before you really let loose.

Las Vegas Restaurants

In keeping with the theme that Las Vegas is a city for virtually all tastes and preferences, there is no shortage of restaurants or cuisines to choose from while in town. For quite some time, the city’s culinary reputation was almost entirely defined by the availability of low-cost buffets. While those are pretty much a thing of the past, the major hotels still offer buffets. Some are pretty extravagant. You can also still find plenty of meal deals in and around the city, though generally speaking, you should expect to get what you pay for. This is good news if the dining budget is ample, as Las Vegas is home to a healthy number of fine dining establishments that can take you on truly satisfying culinary adventures. Behind the scenes at many Las Vegas restaurants are celebrity chefs and other food preparation masters who have more than earned their stripes in the business. If you just want some pub grub or fast food, on the other hand, there are plenty of options there as well.

If you fly to Las Vegas, you will quickly notice upon arrival that gambling is a major activity around these parts. Housed inside the city’s airport are numerous slot machines. Of course, it’s no secret that Vegas and the gaming industry are well-established bedfellows and that high rollers figure among the city’s favorite visitors. One of the best things about the Las Vegas casinos, however, is that they aren’t just for high rollers. Penny slot machines exist, for example, and you don’t have to break the bank playing a little blackjack. Regardless of your intentions, it is best to know the rules of the games that you intend to play before you lay your money down. Most of the Las Vegas casinos actually offer free gambling lessons if you need some help making sense of it all. Often times, after the lesson is over, you can play low-stakes games to help you get even more ready for the real thing. Once you’re established, you might even consider joining a players’ club. Most, if not all, of the Vegas casinos offer players’ clubs, and their members can earn all kinds of privileges and rewards, including discounted hotel rooms and cash rebates.
