The Pacific Coast of Colombia is considered to be a rather dangerous area. The same goes for the southwest region of the country. That doesn’t mean that you can’t visit these areas. They are probably best avoided, however. After all, there is plenty to enjoy along the Atlantic coast, including some spectacular beaches. Some of the most popular beaches are found in or near cities that offer hotels, bars, restaurants, and other things that tourists can take advantage of. Others are found on islands that populate the waters of the Caribbean Sea, and they should definitely be considered when planning a Colombia beach escape.

Cartagena is the main travel hub in Colombia. Reasons for this include its excellent infrastructure, its colonial architecture, and its enticing beaches. The main beaches in the city include the southern beaches of Bocagrande, El Laguito, and Castillo Grande. On the northern side, you have the beaches of La Boquilla and Marbella. These brown sand beaches can certainly be great places to sunbathe and swim, and there are beach hotels to select from along their sandy stretches. Beach enthusiasts who find themselves in Cartagena can also head out to one of the nearby islands, such as the island of Baru and Islands of Rosario. The island of Baru is where you can find the renowned beach of Playa Blanca, and the Islands of Rosario are part of a national park that is known for its beautiful beaches and its coral reefs.

The best Colombia beaches are those that are found on the country’s Caribbean islands. These islands include San Andres Island and Providencia Island, which are part of a department known as the Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina. Clear waters, stunningly beautiful white sand beaches, and immaculate diving and snorkeling are what these islands get the most attention for. Also, there are plenty of good beach accommodations to choose from, and the area is well served by the Gustavo Rojas Pinilla International Airport.
