Teotihuacán was the largest city in the pre-Columbian Americas — a metropolis of 125,000 people at its peak in 450 AD, whose name means 'the place where men become gods' in Nahuatl, and whose builders remain unidentified. The Pyramid of the Sun is the third-largest pyramid on earth. The Avenue of the Dead stretches 4 kilometres. Nobody knows who built it, why it was abandoned, or what language its people spoke.
