Paris Shopping

Paris shopping is always a popular activity, as fashion lures travelers to the capital of France in growing numbers each year. From events such as the Paris Fashion Week to stores that set the trends, fashion has a strong presence in the city. Shopping here is all encompassing, including items such as clothing at trendy boutiques and handmade jewelry, as well as stylish home furnishings. The best shops in Paris aren’t always the big designer names (though you will be shocked by the selection!) but often the small, independently owned boutiques that display the French sense of dressing: understated, elegant, and classy.

Many shoppers begin at Rue de Rivoli, home to both trendy boutiques and major chains. The benefit of this area of Paris shopping is condensed options—nearby there is a large underground shopping mall, and boutiques feature up-and-coming designers for those travelers who are looking for something unique. Rue de Rivoli can be reached by taking the Metro to Chatelet-Les Halles and exploring from there. The extensive Metro system will help to make your shopping day manageable, as it is possible to drop off bags at your hotel before heading out to explore a different shopping district in this fashion mecca.

Paris Shopping

Some travelers say the best shops in Paris are located along Saint Germain des Pres. Boutiques here are known for being chic and classic, and a great selection of books and home furnishings can also be found here. The famous department store Le Bon Marche is also found here, and it has a gourmet market that will thrill foodies. If vintage or antique items are more your style, then head toward Saint-Ouen Flea Market. This market located on the northern tip of Paris is home to antique furniture and vintage clothes. Avoid the weekends, however, when crowds can make browsing a nuisance.

Paris Shopping

Paris shopping continues back in the center of the city on Boulevard Haussmann. This area is known as the department stores district, and shoppers can easily get lost in the labyrinth that is the Paris department store. An incredible variety will be found here, including designer fashions, jewelry, gourmet food, and housewares. This area of Paris can be easily reached by the Metro, at either the Havre-Caumartin or Opera stop. These department stores have a prestigious reputation, and even if you aren’t in the market to shop they are a great place to explore.

Paris Shopping

To many travelers the best shops in Paris are the ones you weren’t looking for. Each year new boutiques pop up on the back streets where you’ll stumble upon the perfect handbag, pair of boots, or simple jacket you’ve been craving but have been unable to find. If you have a certain piece in mind, you will most likely be able to find it in Paris. Whether on Rue de Rivoli or a store you’ve never heard of, Paris delivers fashion-wise. After a day spent shopping, explore a museum, or settle back into a cruise down the River Seine for a relaxing ride. If all the shopping has left you worn out, look into booking a spa treatment, either at your hotel or one of the many day spas in the city. Paris is full of opportunities to relax after a day spent indulging your material side.
