The national seashore is home to over 250 species of birds and hundreds of other animals. Bird watching, sea shell collecting, and quiet strolls along the coast are activities that can be enjoyed at the National Seashore.

Since Pensacola Beach is a popular destination for Florida vacation packages, the beaches can get quite crowded during the winter. If you want to avoid the crowds, the best time to visit attractions in Pensacola Beach is during the weekdays or during the summer. If you can stand the summertime heat, you might be able to save money on Florida resorts and hotels in the summer.

There are several attractions in Pensacola Beach besides the beaches. One of the most interesting things to do in Pensacola Beach is visit Fort Pickens. The huge brick structure was built in the 1830s to aid in guarding the harbor of Pensacola Beach Florida. It was also where Geronimo, an Apache leader, was imprisoned from 1886 to 1888. The Fort Pickens visitor center has a small museum that displays exhibits about the ecology of the area, the Civil War, and Geronimo. Fort Pickens is also a campground with 200 campsites. The campsites are set in a pine forest and have nature trails leading to the beach.
